Double Silhouette
Xihai Grand Canyon / Huangshan Mountain / China Huangshan Pines (Pinus luchuensis var. hwangshanensis) are different from other pines. Most of them don't grow on the earth, but root on steep cliffs, alpine peaks and steep ravines. Because they take root in rocks, they are sturdy and mostly living for well over 100 years, they are seen as a symbol of vigor and vitality. The older ones are even thought to be more than 1500 years old. Many specimens are venerated for their unique rugged shapes, and are frequently portrayed in traditional Chinese paintings.
